Howard, does such a thing as an original Trevor Burton of the song Edmunds and the Groovies both did - 'down down down' - even exist??

wow, David - I just saw this. I'm so sorry to have not replied sooner. Re your question, I don't think so, although Trevor seems to enjoy the word 'down' in his repertoire as he played on the Steve Gibbons Band's tune called "Down In The Bunker" not to mention, "I Went Up, I Went Down" which appeared on the Pink Fairies' alb, What A Bunch Of Sweeties! I can't find any mention of Down Down Down outside of those artists you cited. ht
